A dirty filter or a yellow filter both will cause a sucking sound which is not good for your system, This sound means that your unit is not getting enough air, is being damaging, and increasing your power bill.

A: Usually this is from the compressor. this doesn't mean that you have to replace it, usually it just means that you are low on refrigerant and have to have the leak repaired. This tends to be a lot less expensive and will usually cause your power bill to go down.
Q: Can I up size my air conditioner when I replace it?
A: If you are going to up size your air conditioner you should have a good reason. If you are adding a room to your house, or you have a unit that was never the right size (this almost never happens) or you already had a room added to your house but the system was never modified, are all good reasons for modifying your existing system. An air conditioner running continually isn't usually an indication that your system is too small. If you oversize your system it will cause your power bill to actually increase because an air conditioner uses more power when it starts not while it is running. So, if you oversize an air conditioner it stops and starts more frequently. The best thing you can do is hire a company that is NATE certified to tune up your air conditioning system and make sure that the air flow through your system is correct. This includes having your unit serviced twice a year (heating and cooling), and having your indoor and outdoor coils checked and cleaned when necessary.
